Royal Deeside offers a wealth of activities ranging from hill walking to distilleries, and castles to craft centres. The town of Ballater is within walking distance and has an excellent range of shops and restaurants. Balmoral castle is also a short drive upstream and well worth a visit.

Hill Walking

The Cairgorms national park offers some of the most spectacular landscapes in Scotland along with a huge variety of wildlife. For more information about the park and access please visit the Cairngorms National Park website.

We would be very grateful if anyone intending to walk accross the estate between the 1st July and the 15th February could contact the Head Keeper on 01339 755 403 to notify him of their intended route.

Cycling is another great way to explore the local area and bike hire is available in Ballater at the Bike Station in Ballater.

On the other side of the river Dee to Glenmuick is the beautiful 18 hole Ballater Golf Course.

There are several tennis courts for hire next to the Ballater Golf Club.

Horse Riding

Horse riding and private tuition is available on the neighbouring Glen Tanar Equestrian Centre.

Ballater has a large range of shops for all your everyday and country sport needs as well as a spot of retail therapy.

Just over half an hours drive from Glenmuick is Glenshee - Scotland’s premier snow sports resort. Glenshee has 21 lifts and 36 runs offering an exciting and varied skiing experience. With winter snowfall having been higher and more consistent in recent years, why go to mainland Europe when it’s all here?
